First of all, this novella was a hoot. As to be expected from John Scalzi. As predicted, it has all the earmarks of a whacky Scalzi SciFi tale.

I was mistaken in my former blog. The main character, Ashley Perrin, is not a newly elected councilwoman, but a newly hired community liaison, in a city district that has more aliens than humans.

The characters are indeed quirky. The plot, involving shapeshifting alien pets, an enormous—and sound barrier-busting—alien celebration, and unwanted information on how city sewer systems function, all lead to a very Scalzian and satisfying conclusion.

I highly recommend this novella to lovers of sci-fi and comedy.
