My Thoughts on the Film Companion...

Sometimes, I hate watching a film after I know something about it. Like a twist that occurs in the first quarter of the movie that you totally know about because it's the film's premise.
The film's about a bracingly human, robot companion, Iris—played by Sophie Thatcher—who commits a crime of passion, all for the love of her life—read: owner/master—Josh, played by Jack Quaid.
As plots go, it’s standard, with predictable events and seen-way-from-afar conclusion. The performances, though, are quite noteworthy. Thatcher plays her role earnestly, in full denial that she is what she is. Once she knows—and is liberated by her own technology—things go quite dark. Even in her darkest moments, Thatcher portrays Iris as sympathetic and, undeniably, human.
Jack Quaid, as the entitled, rich boy Josh, starts out with usual, typecast goofiness, but soon becomes quite dark. To say that Quaid can pull off creepiness, if not evil, is an understatement.
All in all, the film was enjoyable, and I’d recommend it to sci-fi horror fans. But this was a one-off: I don’t see myself purchasing a digital copy of this to watch it again sometime in the future.
