Another murder, another mystery, another location. But what is the real crime? And who is the real murderer?

Filmmaker Rian Johnson (Knives Out) brings us another episode in the Mysteries of Benoit Blanc, Eccentric Southern Dandy Master Detective. This time, the setting is a private Greek Island (just as closed off), the suspects are not related (but still entitled, deceitful jerks), and the first murder (at least for these purposes), takes place outside the “locked-room,” before the main action of the story.

Daniel Craig (Casino Royale) returns as Benoit Blanc, who, again, is mysteriously invited to what will be the crime scene. (Or is he?) Again, the actor has fun with his role. Billionaire tech guru Miles Bron (Edward Norton, Fight Club) invites his closest friends, whom he calls “The Disruptors,” to his island for a weekend of an extended whodunit—a murder mystery party. What happens as a result lies somewhere between shocking and predictable (it is a murder mystery, after all).

Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), Jessica Henwick (The Royal Hotel), Leslie Odom, Jr. (Hamilton), and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) round out the cast as the friends of the billionaire. They all have a great time playing their parts. To throw a monkey wrench into the weekend plans is Andi Brand, portrayed by Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures), former partner of Bron and the catalyst for the crimes yet to be committed. (Or is she?) Plot twists and reveals present themselves this time out of chronological order, but it works well with the overall narrative.

All in all, another fun film, and I was glad it was made. The production fell into difficulties because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I highly recommend this film. Watch it and enjoy.
