My Thoughts on the Film, The Toxic Avenger (2023, R-Rated Version), 4/25/2026…

Having seen the original Toxic Avenger (1984) a long while back, I was interested in seeing the remake, especially what Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Elijah Wood (LOTR), and Kevin Bacon (Footloose) could do with it.

I was highly entertained, joyously grossed out (and this wasn’t even the unrated version), and weirdly satisfied. The film tickled me, with its blend of camp and violence: one which was witty, the other, over the top and ridiculous (only practical special effects were used here). Indeed, TTA (2023) had B-movie appeal. I was glad I saw it, yet its rewatchability is low, despite the predictions of the film becoming a cult classic.

Dinklage had a blast, Wood sniveled amusingly, and Bacon chewed up scenery; it was clear that a fun time was had by all when making this film. Yet the pacing of the first half was up and down, and the only momentum that occurred was when things became personal for Winston Gooze, or Toxie, the protagonist/hero.

I definitely recommend this film as a one-off. After inquiring about what the unrated version contains, I am satisfied with the R-rated one and have no interest in seeing more gore or perversion.
