My Thoughts on the Film, The Wrecking Crew (2026)...

It is always satisfying when a formulaic, by-the-numbers, trope-filled action movie is done well. And The Wrecking Crew (2026) is such an example.

The movie stars Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Summa Cum Laude graduates of the Superhero School of Acting. Each play estranged half-brothers, James and Jonny Hale (pronounced hah-lay), who are reunited by the mysterious death of their father. They meet up in Hawaii, their homeland, to find answers. Their chemistry is almost tangible.

The movie is penned by Jonathan Tropper (showrunner of Warrior), a graduate of the Shane Black School of Screenwriting (Lethal Weapon), who also happened to minor in Robert Towne (Chinatown). This is high praise, indeed. The script masterfully injects action sequences in moments of high dramatic interest, right when plot and character development are about to emerge. The most exciting example is the helicopter/car chase near the end of the film.

The most striking similarity to Lethal Weapon and its successors is not only the buddy cop formula, but the character archetypes played by Bautista and Momoa. Bautista is the strait-laced family man, while Momoa plays the loose cannon drunkard, archetypes that Danny Glover and Mel Gibson immortalized.

More-than-capable actors populate the rest of the cast. Temura Morrison (Aquaman), Frankie Adams (The Expanse), and Morena Baccarin (Deadpool), with whom I’m head-over-heels in love, finely tuned their craft in an enjoyable two-plus hours of entertainment.

I highly recommend this film. You’re bound to enjoy it as much as I did.
