I’m beginning to truly appreciate this series, mostly for the worldbuilding it presents. Trawler Trash (Reassembly Book 2), by P.D. James, offers action-packed plots, quirky characters, and, of course, existential questions that every noteworthy science fiction novel/series broaches but never resolves.
Main character Geddy Starheart is the ultimate reluctant hero. In the last book, he had the captaincy of a trash trawling spaceship, For Sale Make Offer, or the FIZMO, thrust upon him. He’s still reluctant, but he has grown responsible, thinking not only of himself but also of the members of his crew.
The crew is in desperate need of money; the FIZMO, desperate need of repairs and upgrades. Geddy gets ideas, some more outlandish than others. But when the galaxy is at stake, the FIZMO crew rises to the occasion, finding camaraderie and heroism in everything they do.
I highly recommend this book and this series. It’s great fun!
