I am currently reading Vineland by Thomas Pynchon. The last time I read a Pynchon novel was back in college, when an adventurous Literature professor assigned Gravity’s Rainbow to the class. GR was nothing as I’ve read before, but unfortunately, I don’t recall much of it, except for the plot element that bombings seem to follow the protagonist all around WWII-era Europe.
Like other Pynchon novels, Vineland is a mish-mash of disparate elements, all centering around a main character in a unique if not unbelievable situation. Yet this one contends to be more political than his other works. If this is anything like GR, and I suspect it is, I’ll need to pay close attention while I’m reading through the novel.
I’ll let you know what I think when I’m through.
