What I’m Currently Reading, 4/8/2026…

Originally published as a nickel weekly—a story published every week in a magazine or periodical—back on January 27, 1899, The Black Band: or, The Two King Bradys Against a Hard Gang (Secret Service Book 1), by a New York Detective (how’s that for anonymity, huh?), was the first treat leading others every Friday thereafter.

Two things are going for it, from where I’m standing: it’s a mystery, and it’s historical fiction; two genres I enjoy immensely. Perhaps the language and grammar from back then will appear fresh and innovative, possibly spawning stories written in the same style.

I’ll share my thoughts when I’m through.
